Maestro 35, custom built in Finland 2000-2012 from an empty GRP hull to become a Junk Rig schooner. Volvo Penta 19 HP from 2001, with only 450 hours.  One owner (daughter of builder). Bargain price 35 000 €.

She has 2 wooden masts, 2 cabins, salon, navigation board, galley and toilet. She was launched first time in April 2012 in Helsinki, Finland, and sailed to Bozburun/Marmaris in Turkey in May-July 2012. The builder was a retired SAS/Finnair airliner-technician with an eye for details, quality and safety.

Her maiden trip was in May 2012 from Helsinki to Bozburun/Turkey via the Kiel channel, southeast England, Gibraltar, Sicily and the Greek islands in 10 weeks.                                                                              She arrived in Bozburun end of July 2012 after sailing around Europe.

The hull is a Maestro/Finn 35 with a classic design, built by Maestro Boats in Finland 1982, purchased by the builder in 1983. She was built between 2000 and 2011 under roof at the builder´s home and then finished by the present owner with friends and launched in April 2012. LOA is 11,25 meters (officially 10,75 m but extended by the builder by 0,5 meters at the stern). The free-board was modified to become 15 cm higher than standard. Beam is 3,5 meters and draft is 1,8 meters.

Displacement approximately 5,6 tons, including the 250 kg custom-designed lead weights added to the keel in order to compensate for the higher centre-of-gravity caused by the wooden sail battens and wooden masts.

Nereid is very steady even in rough seas and ideal for cruisingsailors and for long-distance sailing, particularly when sailing single-handed. The junk rig is a low-tech approach to sailing and therefore requires only inexpensive components that can be purchased almost anywhere. Like all junk-rigged boats she is self-tacking, self-jibing and quick and easy to reef. Normally, you don´t have to leave the cockpit except for putting the sail-covers on/off.

The engine is a 19 Hp in-board Volvo Penta MD2020 (purchased year 2001, launched 2012), by Jan 2019 it´s been used a total of approximately only 450 hours.

Interior with 1st class hand-made woodwork, all systems and the hollow wooden masts were custom-built to very high standards.

Over 4000hrs work was spent on the boat during the building years 2000-2011 at the builder´s home in Helsinki.

Cabins: front cabin sleeps 2 and has a closet, shelves, wall mirror, chair and table. Aft cabin sleeps 1 (or 2 kids) but is lower. Both are long enough for a person of 190cm. The convertible sofa-bed (somewhat shorter) in the salon suits one adult or two kids. Specially designed cushions, foldable table in the saloon and a navigation board. Lots of storage space everywhere on board.

The galley is with an integrated fridge, grey-water tank and a propane stove.

Maximum height in the salon (between the supporting beams) is roughly 182 cm. The captain is 187 cm tall.

Toilet (new 2015) with manual pump, connected to a 100L holding tank, standard connector for pump-out is located at stern. New pump-out-to-the-sea pump installed 2019.

The Rig uses the “Westernized Junk Rig” design, which is a modern and simplified adaption of the ancient Chinese Junk-rig, as described in the English book “Practical Junk Rig”.

The 2 masts are hand-made, very strong, un-stayed (no wires or cables) hollow wooden masts. They are glued together from many pieces and laminated with glass fibre and polyester and varnished. Both masts, booms and battens were painted with white epoxy paint during spring 2019.The masts are extremely strong and sit in saddles in the bilge.

Mainmast: length above deck 12 meters, diameter at deck 27 cm.                                         Foremast: length above deck 10.5 meters, diameter at deck 21 cm.

The sails are made from US 5,1 oz Dacron, originally professionally custom made by Rolly Tasker in Phuket, Thailand. Mainsail area 37 square meters, foresail area 23 square meters. Sails have wooden battens and booms. The main sail was repaired (large sections replaced) in spring 2018 and the front sail was repaired the same way in spring 2019. Sail covers are UV-protected 1st class, professionally custom made in Marmaris 2018.

Parrels: Each sail has the yard hauling parrel, sheets parrel and halyard parrel going down to the cockpit.

Cockpit has a removable teak table and a foldable stainless-steel wheel from Lewmar with leather cover. New cushions in cockpit, UV-protected 1st class material, professionally custom made in Marmaris 2018. There is no autopilot system.

Some teak wooden details on deck and at each side of the cockpit. Aluminium foldable gangway.

Foldable sprayhood and bimini covers the whole cockpit area. Made from stainless steel tubing and 1st class, UV-protected French “Sunbrella”, professionally custom made in Marmaris 2013 vs. 2015. The sprayhood windows were refurbished during spring 2019.  New stainless-steel-wire guardrails were installed in 2018.

Windlass from 2013 is an electric Anchorlift Barracuda 900 which can be operated by foot-switches at the bow and by a switch at the helm (motor instruments’ panel).                                          10 kg Delta anchor with 45 mtr 7mm chain purchased 2019. Spare anchor is 15 kg Bruce.

SeaGo life-raft for 4 people, in plastic container, from 2012 and never used (nor serviced).

    Navigation equipment:

At the helm: magnetic compass, large Raymarine plotter screen, 3 instruments showing speed (display not working), wind direction/speed, depth. At the navigation board below deck: VHF radio, Garmin gps and a Navman repeater display.

    Electric system:

330 W photovoltaic panels, solar charge controller, 315 Ah marine batteries (2015-2019), 60 Ah starter battery (2016). 12-V LED-lights were installed all over in 2015, replacing the power-consuming halogen light-bulbs. Connection for shore-power at the stern is connected to a 230V power outlet below the navigation board. The battery charger is not permanently connected to the shore power outlet but it can easily be plugged-in (normally not needed in Turkey due to the many sun-hours). Ventilation fans in the cabins, galley and toilet.

    Engine and fuel system:

Volvo Penta diesel MD2020, 19 HP. Sail-drive 120, 2-blade fixed Volvo Penta Aluminum prop (installed 2019). Fuel tanks 110 + 80 L. Engine has been used for approx. 450 hrs (jan-20) and was unused (although purchased in 2001) when she was first launched in May 2012.

    Water system:

200 + 40 L fresh-water tanks. Cold water taps in toilet and galley. Shower and connection for water hose is located at the stern, by the swimming platform. Kitchen and toilet sinks are connected to a grey-water holding tank of 60 L.

Current harbour is Bozburun/Marmaris. She is registered with the Swedish Cruising club in Stockholm, Sweden.

Just a reminder Carl: you'll get more response if you indicate how much you want for the boat.  It's no use being coy about it: people will just go on to the next topic unless the boat is close to them.  If it's priced attractively, they may go to the trouble and expense of flying out to see it.
