LEE SAILS OF HONG KONG — HASLER/McLEOD FLAT JUNK-RIG SAIL Approximately 330 sq ft (30.7 m²)

Professionally built by Lee Sails of Hong Kong to Hasler/McLeod specifications, this is   a high-quality flat junk-rig sail originally built for a Kingfisher 26JR.The standard Kingfisher 26JR sail area is approximately 270 sq ft. When I had this sail built, I deliberately increased the area by approximately 22–25%, bringing the total sail area to approximately 330 sq ft. The additional area was intended to improve performance in light air, with the understanding that the extra sail area is very easy to reduce with the junk rig. Light air performance of my Kingfisher 26JR benefited greatly.

The sail has seven panels between the boom and yard, with six intermediate batten pockets.

All of the horizontal members were designed for approximately 176" (14'8") length:

    • Boom — 176"
    • Six intermediate battens — 176" each
    • Yard — 176"

The sail can therefore be progressively reefed through six reef positions. An especially useful feature of this arrangement is that when the sail is fully reefed, the uppermost panel between the yard and the top batten remains flying. This provides a small storm-sail area rather than reducing the sail completely to the boom.

    Condition — like new

The sail was used lightly for only one season before I replaced it with a cambered sail.

It was: Kept under a sail cover while aboard the boat, Removed and stored indoors in its sail bag when off the boat, Never subjected to years of UV exposure while uncovered

The sail is in like-new condition. The photographs are of the actual sail and show the excellent condition of the cloth, stitching, reinforcement and batten pockets as of 27 August 20026.

The sale is for the sail only. Boom, yard and six battens are NOT included.

The 176" dimensions above describe the spars the sail was designed to accommodate; the spars themselves are not part of the sale.
