Wanted: a boat in the UK

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a retired man in possession of a moderate pension, must be in want of a junk-rigged boat.

I've been sailing, but not owning, pointies for the past 20 years. But with retirement now upon me, the time has come to buy the boat I always said I'd buy in retirement.

I've been a lurker here for many years before becoming a member, and despite never having sailed a junk, am convinced of the arguments.

The problem is trying to find one. While there have been a few recent candidates that were within my size/price range, they've been in the US or further abroad. The only things that show up in the UK appear to be in the size range that will never get my first mate aboard.

If anyone is thinking of selling, or knows of anything for sale in the UK, I'm interested in what's available.

Hi I have a boat in Suffolk and would be happy to consider either sale or sharing of the boat.

    Reach out.

    Hi Jame,

In case you are interested I have a 28' Sunbird 28. The hull is effectively a Colvic Sailor 28, which was adapted for junk rig at the very outset by Sunbird Marine. (i.e. she has always been a junk rig, not converted from a bermudan) and the junk rig wad designed and fitted by Robin Blaine. She has 10'6" beam and therefore plenty of room on board for you and numerous crew. I mostly sail single handed - which she is very good for like all junk rigged boats, but there are 5 births for when you need more.

She is currently at Ashlett Creek near Hythe, on Southampton Water, and I am considering selling her after many happy years, owing to ongoing commitments elsewhere in my life.  If you are interested in a closer look, or would like more information - don't hesitate to contact me and I shall be happy to help.
