For Sale: Freedom 40 (easily convertable to JR)

Although this boat is not junk-rigged, I've had permission from the JRA Chair to post here, as the unstayed masts mean Freedoms can be very easily converted to junk rig.

Titian Lady (named because of the colour of her sails) has been in my family for 40 years. Freedom yachts built the hull, and my father created the bespoke interior layout in teak. The design makes the maximum use of available space with many clever features – as a result she feels very spacious and can sleep 10 (and there are no less than 137 lockers).

Since I inherited her, she's had a major refurbishment - new engine, electrical wiring & running rigging, carbon fibre masts removed & repaired. Changing circumstances mean I'm now reluctantly looking to find her a new owner. Although she is seaworthy and can be sailed/used (photos from last summer attached), in order to make her fully ocean-going again there are still several jobs to do, such as connecting the water heater and installing the fridge cooling plates - and she would benefit from new sails (not an issue if you're planning to convert her to JR).

Full details, photos and specification can be found at the following webpage:

She was built in 1985 and is now showing signs of her age and needs some TLC to bring her back to her original glory. There are some cosmetic jobs that are not necessary, but would be nice to do – some headlining panels show evidence of a previous leaking hatch (now re-seated and re-sealed), some minor woodwork to be replaced/mended after it was removed for mast maintenance & the lockers could do with a thorough clean.

In 2014 the entire hull topsides gelcoat was resurfaced and re-painted (a storm while on her swinging mooring had caused many small gelcoat chips along one side and re-doing it all was the most cost-effective solution). In 2022 damage to the bottom of the long keel was discovered, which has been professionally repaired (under an insurance claim). The Hull Coppercoat was applied in 2014 and shows no sign of any growth.

I'm happy to answer any other questions either here on the forum, or by direct email to GilesH.mail@gmail.com

Looks a beautiful boat and I note from the ad link that the price is just below £35,000.

I have sailed on Patrick LeBlanc’s (and the Kerslake’s previously) Freedom 39, Paradox, so there is at least one good example of a converted Freedom of this size.
