SALE OF AN EAGLE 525 – JUNK RIGGED
I have for sale my Eagle 525, it’s one of the last ones made by Morton Marine. I have converted it to junk rig but it could easily revert to a conventional rig. I have the original mast and sails which are in very good condition.
The rig has all lines led to the cockpit. The sail was made by an Association member and is properly cut and constructed with good quality light weight and fabric cut with the proper camber. It has powder coated aluminium battens and sets and draws very well. The sail area is 18.5m2, about the same as the original rig. This is also available and the boat could be converted back if required.
Equipment and extras include
A very good trailer, good tyres, brand new bearings just fitted and a winch.
A full camping tent, unused but it’s red.
Good 10kg SQR anchor and lots of rope and chain
Brand new Spinlock extendable tiller extension.
Navman Echo and speed
Battery with solar power
Compass
Instrument panel
Interior lights
Origo double spirit stove
Sink with tap (no drain)
Cabin table
Mast raising and lowering kit, easily operated by one person.
Re sealed windows.
New interior window plywood.
New outboard mount
New cockpit floor
Re painted deck
A nearly new Mercury marine 6hp four stroke engine is available by separate negotiation if required
I am a retired architect and I’ve been sailing for 40 years and owned many boats. This one has had a lot of attention over the past two years of ownership and is ready to go.
This boat has the great advantage of having twin heavy drop keels which retract into housing in each berth, leaving the centre of the cabin clear. There is good sitting headroom.
The junk rig is a delight, the boat never gets in irons no matter how slowly you are sailing (almost). Going about is a joy, no headsail to bother with and the sail is whisper quiet, nothing for the crew to do. Reefing is super easy, just release the main halliard, on any point of sailing. Pointing is not quite as good as a Bermudan set up but junk rig is superior on all other points of sailing.
Why am I selling you may ask, well age and a bad back. Although launching and retrieval are relatively easy, the trailer is really good, it’s all got too much for me. The boat is located in South Cumbria and is currently on her trailer.
