Chinese Junks and a junket - planning ahead for, say, 2020

    Dreaming ahead...Tall dreams for 2020

As we have heard that junkets and tall ships go together rather well, your fresh Dutch sailing secretary started off with some vague ideas about getting a tall-ship-junket together in the Northern hemisphere, dreaming up a link between the tall ship meet SailAmsterdam (every 5 years, next one 19 – 23 August 2020) and perhaps some Chinese junks to boot. Slumber on my 7m Kingfisher comes easy, but the virtual world turns out to be far more imaginative – as the JRA was approached by a Chinese project building a 20m Foo Zhou style reconstruction, asking us if we’d be interested to meet up when they were planning to sail round the world in future.

Now there is nothing like making bold plans on a winters’ eve, so I’ll be talking to the SailAmsterdam organisers soon, and stay in touch with our Chinese fellow junk enthusiasts.

I will keep you all informed on this forum - fresh ideas are very welcome.

Fair winds to all of you - all down the Maritime Silk Route...

Gosh - this is so exciting!  It sounds like it could be a fantastic event.  I so hope our Northern Hemisphere junkies climb on board for this.  Best of luck, Barbara.  I shall be following this closely.

Well done Barbara.  And thank you.  'Blue skies thinking' and indeed 'blue water'.
