Hello all.  Been interested in junks for well over a decade.  I've been a bit obsessed with the idea of a 4 masted junk rigged catamaran.  David Omick built a 24 foot version, and I'd like to build a slightly upscale 32 foot version.  Ive been working out the plans for the last month or so.  It's very Wharram like. Its designed to be as simple to build as possible without compromising strength or safety.  It's 32 feet long (the length of 4 sheets of ply, and also the length of my garage).  The dory style hulls have 4 foot sides, a 4 foot deck, 18 floor, one foot draft, and a straight middle run.  Apologies for my primitive measurement system!  Ive purchased all the wood, the bulkheads have been cut, and Ive been gathering supplies.

I do have some experience with homebuilt craft.  I owed a Richard Woods catamaran and I currently own/live on a 38 foot homemade plywood monohull.   This is a three year project I'll build while I'm back in the states during the summers.   I plan to sell my monohull in 3 years after I get it back to the east coast (In Baja right now).  The catamaran will hopefully be a little kinder on my aging body.

Heres a link to David's Minimus II project.

It is a nice human based measurement system unlike the one they are trying to replace it with which is totally dehumanizing. Imagine measuring distance based how fast light moves..... and no I am not a US citizen. I live in a place that has 4ft by 8ft plywood that has thickness in mm.... go figure.

There are many things to recommend catamaran sailboats but for around here.... a Cat means anchoring out as none of the marinas seem to have cat sized slips or even dock sides. Anyway, keep us posted, there are others who would like to know more about junk rigs on cats and even more who want to know more about bi-plane style rigs.

Hey Len, thanks for the reply.   I've owned a large cat, and know all about the ills of getting slip space I can afford, and docking (with one motor).  My passion is actually voyaging.  I generally don't even go to places I can't anchor.   I know the cat will work better than the 17 ton mono I sail.  I'm getting to old to handle such a beast.
