He'd have been on my list.

Methinks a letter to the new Editor of Yachting Monthly pointing out that as 15% of Gelder's list sailed or sail junks the rig should get much more coverage in his magazine. Perhaps they could be convinced to do a double-page spread of David's presentation. Job for Geoff Turton (i/c Publicity)!

Yes it is clearly personal, as all these things inevitably are.  I would also question the inclusion of Mary Falk who, whilst being a formidable lady and sailor, is the ultimate racer.  However, with at least three junk rig sailors mentioned in the article (Richey, Hasler mentioned in passing, and Hill) it is a reasonable shout for the junk rig.  jds

Jonathan thanks for posting the list.  Pete Goss is an interesting addition.  I'm not sure I'd class him as a cruising hero.  A great adventurer certainly.  But to my knowledge he has only done one piece of 'cruising'....... the recent Spirit of Mystery project.

Also slightly confused as to why Annie is on the list but Pete Hill isn't

That crossed my mind as well, he certainly hasn't smirked from going to the hard places.

This is clearly a very personal, subjective list from Paul Gelder. Susan and Adrian Payne?? I had to look them up. The others I've heard of.

When I next meet up with Fantail, I'll put up a blue disc that says"Annie Hill still lives here, and any rumours that she lives ashore are false".

Jonathan, I don't want to buy the mag this month! Could you list the entire 20, just the names? I keep meaning to contact Brighton Council to see if they'll put up a 'famous people' blue disc for Mike on the place he last lived in, which is near us. Must put that on my 'to do' list. Cheers.
