The Oracle has spoken! But I happen to know that he frequently sends messages of +/- 140 characters.  Called texting!  I don't tweet myself - I spend far too much time on the computer as it is - but I support Andrew in his concept of Spreading the Word further by modern ways of communicating.  I hope there is some response.  I discovered that one can read these tweets without having to join Twitter, so will watch with interest to see what happens.

(BTW for those who watch their pennies - the maximum number of characters in a txt message is 160.  It is an interesting intellectual exercise to say all that you want in no more and no fewer words, punctuation, smileys, etc.  I usually get full value for money!)

Jeff, as an IT professional, I avoid Facbook like the plague and refuse to go anywhere near it. If your privacy is of any  value to you, you'll do well to do the same.

Google+ however is with reasonable care safe and acceptable. This is because unlike Facebook, all defaults are set to private mode and you have to decide who sees which and what content you may want to share. So it is possible to strictly define your audience in Google+.

Face book however, the default mode is everything public with many of the settings obscure and/or hidden. It requires considerable effort to control your privacy in Facebook. They also change things regularly in ways the erase your privacy settings.

As for Twitter, I just fail to see the point of a 140 character message.

As we are an increasingly international brigade, it will be interesting to see whether this will enable and attract enthusiasts' dialogue, maybe help promote our organisation and, Chairman, everyone is limited to 140 characters, including full stops, commas and expletives, per post!!

Now just needs some postings.......Go to  www.twitter.com/junksailor
