The new dinghy (Beetle) is done and handles quite well. Building it as a nesting dinghy was a waste of time as it won't nest under the boom, however it stows nicely on the cabin top assembled. I'm putting off Moreton Bay till April as the weather is wet wet and wet at the moment. A slightly depressing discovery has been areas of dry rot around stanchion bases. More work.

That's too bad, thought we'd meet you at the Southport anchorage. We're stuck at Tin Can Bay atm, sitting out the gales. (Met Graham's mate too, Gary on the fast Herreshoff junk). Not enough Garys' around here...

I've had someone offer me a loan so I could well be sorted early March. Weather permitting of course.

I used to think all Aussies were called Bruce, but was under a misconception.  Aussies are called Gary - it's Kiwis who are called Bruce!!

Nice dinghy t'other Gary :-) Why Beetle?

    Two possibilities:

1 My eldest daughter had a very lovely one eyed cat named Beetle.

2 The landing barges used during the Gallipoli landings were called Beetles.

Working towards heading up to Moreton Bay on the 19th January. Hoping for fair winds and fine weather. My new dinghy is progressing nicely and should be ready in time.

Well done, Gary.  I hope that next time you 'cross the bar', it will be to carry on for days or weeks :-)
