    Hi David

Interesting boat, it's sort of like a puddle duck on steroids :)

you might be best off with a split junk rig if you need to pile a bunch of canvas on a short mast, they're fairly low with decent windward performance, http://www.junkrigassociation.org/slieve

Here's a hasler/macleod polytarp sail tutorial you might get some ideas from, I modified the smaller version to suit my little dingy, ended up with 70 sq ft on a mast that's 10' above the partners, probably could have made it 85 sq ft without any problems hanging it on the mast. seems to work quite well.

Here's a tutorial for the redish sail http://www.thecheappages.com/junk/tutorial.html#Reddish

looking forward to see how it turns out

    Hi.

I am ready to put a rig on my newly finished boat

      www.oursquaretrailersailor.blogspot.com

I attached a sketchup of the general idea to this post. That particular mainsail is just something I threw out there to get a picture.

Now I want to go ahead a build a sail.

At this stage I am looking at a very "quick and dirty" version to be considered a learning experience.  I am looking at a flat polytarp sail with split battens lashed to each other through the sail as mentioned in Van Loan.

I have studied PJR extensively but my mast-height constraint forces me to look at a very low-aspect ratio mainsail if I wish to get the 150-200 sq.ft. I need. Top of tabernacle to masthead truck holes is 18'3".  I am leaning away from the Hasler/Macleod sail.

I have been told the Reddish sail could be a good choice. Are there specific issues of JRA magazine that I should look at for guidance on that sail?

From looking around, the Fantail shape could be good for me as well. I couldn't make this link work https://www.box.com/s/e2d899dda29d80e51798 which I got from a forum post on the topic. Could someone direct me to this as well?

    Thanks,

    David
