I have somewhat belatedly discovered that fellow JRA member, Don McFarlane, bought Arion's junk-rigged sistership, Minke, in 2012 and has since sailed her from Coffs Harbour to Fiji via New Caledonia.  Boy, that sure puts a rocket under my tail!  Both boats were built by Jay Reynolds in Ballina, NSW, in the early 1990s and sailed in company in Queensland at one time.  Minke was also the first junk-rigged boat I sailed aboard.  I wanted to buy her but she wasn't available so I ended up with bermudian rigged Arion, then converted to junk in 2011.  I've written to Don and hope to get more details of his passage.  The Tom Thumb is a great little boat.  Not too many 24 footers that can cross oceans with such aplomb.
