You're right Annie they are an unballasted boat of monocoque  ply construction around a  heavily built center board. Capt. Short recommended plastic jugs filled with water packed around the cb if additional ballast was required.Interestingly, I  read of an "Emperor" pelican built by doubling the 12 ft. Plans,  24'x 12'beam with 4' freeboard. Pretty good bang for the buck. BTW,  I am enjoying following your build. That's a nice well thought out design.(Check  out -CL Victoria b.c. " junk rigged ketch" . 26ft Kenner Privateer that's a real beauty. )

It looks cute as, but these boats don't have any ballast, do they?  I wonder what the stability curve would be.

I was surfing the used boat classifieds today and came across a 20ft Pelican on " Used Victoria".I have the plans from Mrs Short and know the boat. This one is a derivitive of the Yangtze design with a center cockpit. Kind of cool and priced right at $ 2500 with a trailer.  Search  20ft Junk Rig Sampan if interested and you will find it. Seeing as the Pelican's boat of the month and all.
