With great regret I write to say I won't now be able to come  to Brest; it turns out that I have to go to Italy on the 11th for ten days. I will be very sorry to miss this opportunity. I wish you all the best of fortune and weather for the occasion and trust you all manage to meet up successfully. François, I will get in touch on my return to see if we can arrange a meeting on another date and perhaps sail together on your beautiful Mousquetaire and discuss anything I can help with concerning your possible JR conversion.
    Best wishes and Bon voyage
    Gavin

    Update

Well first look at my boat since last autumn last weekend.

Green paint dust all over sail - someone sanding nearby hull & no sail cover :( Took it off to wash it (ineffective) and had four hours fun in the sun putting it back on today. Green highlights!

It's also got a hole in it - junk rigs are hole-tolerant aren't they?

Cruising chute has large tear along foot from last year - forgot that - must fix :(

Self-steering vane gear coupling broken - must fix :(

    Still coming though :)

Thanks Ash. Quick update: Francois and I have now met a couple of times. Had a quick look at his lovely 1976 plywood boat in Marina du Chateau, Brest today, before he shot off perhaps to Camaret in a forecast NE4 gusting 7, sunny skies. Gary Marlow no longer coming as busy decorating his house in France ready for summer lets. Gavin Galglish arriving Friday by car. Chris Gallienne leaving Plymouth 0200 Friday to single-hand his way across the Channel; I'm sure he'd love a crew... Paul Fay and Mo are up the Aulne at Port Launay, heading to 'our' marina, possibly with Gavin and Francois on board. On the other hand Francois may be sailing his own boat back to the marina.... Who knows? That's the way it seems to be with junkets - junkies get themselves together.

Have a good passage Chris, and to all others attending from near or far "we wish you all well, good  weather, moderate breezes, fair tides and safe fun"!

It's great to see so many Junkies getting together and organising their own event and  arrangements.  I would love to be a fly on the bulkhead.

Sadly I have other commitments otherwise I would attend.

On conclusion, may we have a few stories, photographs, and accounts from all perspectives and persuasions of the participants, whether guilty or not, for a future JRA Magazine article?

From non-junk local observers, who had never been invaded in this way or seen proper sails before, may we have some comments, thoughts and reactions?

    Bon Voyage to all.

    Ash

Leaving Cargreen on the top of the tide Friday 02:00 - estimating 36 hours. So far, forecast is for favourable winds (N/NE) but rather light - que sera...

Am in contact with Francois; he is unable to make Sunday but wants to sail on Friday/Saturday, so have asked if I can crew Sat pm. Amanda and I are staying Saturday night at the Hotel Abalys, a few minutes up the road but stunning reviews and reasonable price. Hopefully can rendezvous with JRA folk late pm/early evening?
Bonsoir Gavin. I met Francois yesterday. When he left, the arrangement was that I would contact Paul and Mo so that Francois could try to meet up with them in Chateaullin or wherever they are on Saturday and crew for them to Marina du Chateau. I did that but have had nothing back from either of them yet. I'll email you Paul's mobile number so you can try to get in touch, using your JRA email address. Paul does tend to hide away up rivers so dodgy signals I guess. Please keep in mind that this is not an organised rally JRA/Robin style; just a gathering of members, guests and boats, so what happens is down to us all. Any schedule I propose is open to change. I guess Paul and Mo etc will arrive soon after midday. Chris is single-handing the Channel Friday night so when he'll get here is anyone's guess. Shame about Gary.

Hi Gavin. In haste... Good idea to travel with Gary. Hope it works out.

Thanks for airport suggestions. Looked at Rennes-Southampton but flight dates not useful at this time of year, though they are flyiing now. Have booked Brest-Gatwick (we now live in Brighton and our son is nearby =  doss down there with luck.

Thanks too for 'taxi' offer. Haven't even thought of land transport. Probably use trains. May even sail south to make the journey easier. Depends on usual stuff, weathe, energy, motivation...

Draft plan in post below, subject to change and comments from others.

Re accomodation if you and Gary need it, there's an Ibis near the marina, good value, used it a few times. There's an Ibis Styles adjoining - bit more up market. Regret Paradox not sorted for guests yet, still getting on top of things.

    Brian

Your plan sounds good. As I'm singlehanding I am very likely to be knackered, as you say.

Yes, please reserve marina berth for Saturday & Sunday.

    Chris

Marina du Chateau is fine with me.

Good. Paul has agreed to come here too, arriving sometime on Saturday 13th and staying the night, dunno about Sunday. I plan to investigate berths tomorrow or Saturday. If they foresee a problem, which I don't, shall I reserve you a berth for Saturday? Maybe Sunday too?

Plan could be (you'll be knackered from Channel crossing anyway :-) Saturday meet up at marina as and when, Saturday evening meal out in a walking distance restaurant (choice of fish, savoury Brittany crepe + frites, Italian. Sunday day sails, eat out again or onboard. Then 'home' or DIY stuff on Monday.

Francois was onboard for half an hour today. Hopes to sail over from Chateaulin to marina with Paul on Saturday as he can no longer make Sunday. His boat won't be here. So we only have yours, ours (if ready) and Paul's.
