Pro: Less chance of making mistakes in the sailmaking, if the batten pockets are on the same size.

Con: Nothing really. Performance is much about the same as with the sails on opposite sides of the mast.

So if the deck layout is more convenient with both sails on the starboard side, then that the way to go. Usual practice has been to put them both on the port side, but the reasoning is not particularly persuasive.

Dear all, I'm sorry I could not found previous discussion on the topic, but I remember it was already discussed :(

I'm now close to sewing the sails and finalizing dech fittings for 46 ft steel Reinke boat Wyrkata - and initially I planned to have fore sail on starboard side of the mast and main sail regular portside. But now it seems that I'll have easier and neater rope running if I make both sails starboard side to have all the ropes coming on a wider portion of cockpit fore left where winch and stoppers have better position to hadnle all rope in one place (cockpit is assymertical with entrance moved to right from centerline)/

What are pros and cons of having schooner rig sails on same size? Apart from better aesthetics when pictured from afar :)
