    I totally agree with Jan.
I have 2 tablets on board, GPS + Sim card  equipped (they are at home when not sailing) both loaded with the Marine Navigator app. All charts are raster, you can zoom in / out and the best appropiate map is automatically displayed.
I have bought all the chart packages from https://www.visitmyharbour.com/ (life time purchases, no need to pay every year) and 2 Android tablets for redundancy. One tablet is Samsung  Galaxy Tab S5e (with added protection) and the other is an Oukitel RT1 shock/water proof (you can wash it in the sink !).
Really happy with this equipment, far cheaper than any dedicated chartplotter.
The people at visitmyharbour.com are very helpful, I recommend !

I have the Marine Navigator app and raster charts installed on my own old 10" tablet, if I was starting again I'd probably get the whole package from London Chartplotters (bearing in mind they only ship to UK addresses).

The raster charts, which are digital versions of real paper Admiralty (SHOM etc.,) charts are just beautiful to work with compared to Navionics type vector charts. They are available from visitmyharbour.com who seem to work closely with London Chartplotters.

I must add though that London Chartplotters are also offering AIS and other navigation electronics from a certain manufacturer to go with their package which I had a nightmare with, wasted days and days and ended up sending the whole kit and caboodle back and won't touch with a barge-pole in future. (I was dealing with a different retailer, not London CP), so be careful with that side of things.

As my restoration of Sólmara continues, my thoughts have turned to equipping her with simple and reliable kit to make coastal cruising safe and pleasurable.

Knowing where you are plays a big part in that.

To that end I bought a robust Samsung tablet preinstalled with the Marine Navigator app. It was supplied by London Chartplotters

I shan't go into detail here, but suffice it to say that I received some excellent service. The owner, Steve Davis is a sailor and the last independent supplier in this niche. It's not the first time I've bought from him, and it won't be the last.

If you're in the market for an electronic nav solution or AIS I'd recommend getting in touch.

For my own thoughts on navigation in general you might like to check out my most recent blog post on sailingsolmara.com
