This is a photo I saved some years ago. To my eye, the hull lines are very similar to a Lorcha. IIRC, the vessel was beached in Goa.
Thanks! Alex.
The picture of a Lorcha from the Maze Collection seems to be a bit squeezed. The one here is maybe a bit more original.
Alex
Bonjour
I know that the Maze collection models are in the museum reserves. A few years ago they were still accessible on request but I think it's not any more the case.
Eric
Thanks Eric! I believe there is more to discover from the real model, like the rigging and sheeting.
John
In the JRA on line libray, in the Ilustrated Catalogue of THE MAZE COLLECTION off Chineese junks models, in the science museum, London
There is a short description of the Lorca and a view of a Lorca model (p28).
Thanks Alex! The info is very useful.
BTW all books of Audemard and Worcester and a lot more about Junks you can find for downloading at:
https://indigenousboats.blogspot.com/
And some more drawings of Lorchas from L.Audemard. In french but google translater could help.
I just looked closer at the two drawings. The one of Sokoloff and Worcester show the same boat. As Worcesters books are older I think Sokoloff copied from him.
There is a drawing of Donnelly in his book "Chinese Junks - a Book of Drawings in Black and White" and the same drawing and a description in his book "Chinese Junks and Other Native Craft".
