Hello,
I currently own a Vagabond 47 https://sailboatdata.com/sailboat/vagabond-47/ , and my ambitions with it are to continue voyaging across oceans and along coasts.
The boat is at a stage where it needs new rigging and sails. I am also in the process of redoing the decks, and I figured now is the perfect time to rethink the overall rigging. I am very interested in junk rig sailing because of the unstayed masts (no chainplates), the ease of reefing, and the general philosophy of sailing with a junk rig. With all that said, I would like to know how feasible it is to convert my cutter ketch sailboat into a junk rig sailboat. If it is feasible, what sail suggestions and amount of sails would you recommend? I would need to get new masts and convert the boat to be keel-stepped. Please let me know what you all think of this idea, as it is in its early stages. Also please let me know if you all need any additional information.
Also if anyone is/knows of anyone located near Maryland that has experience with this type of conversion, please let me know. I want to make sure that this project is done with the proper care and expertise needed to ensure a successful conversion.
Please let me know if this is okay to ask in this general forum; if not, I will gladly take it down.
I am very excited to be a part of this group!
