Hi,
My Freedom 40 is a centre cockpit version. It has a junk rig on hinged battens. Seven panels. The sails are old and tired and need replacing. The current sailplan started life on another boat with a boat with lower masts. Big benefit is that I can utilise existing junk rig's battens, halyard and sheets.
I am in touch with Sebastian at Tuchwerkstatt and he is starting to ask questions I am not able to easily answer!
The opportunity I have is to make the new rig cambered and taller.
On a Freedom carbon mast that would normally take 42' of wishbone boomed sail, how high can I go with a junk rig? Current rig is seven panels. Sebastian recommends a maximum of 55" (currently 42" to 48" max). Do I increase to 55" and gain 49" and/or add an eight panel?
I think the current battens are 15'6" which looks about right though sheeting angles are tight.
Forgive me for any stupidity. I really am in the dumb question zone.
All good,
