    Nick,

Typing is difficult, but I'm happy to advise by phone. I'll send you my number.

    Thank you David.

I've found your number in my emails. I'm hoping to get my ideas down on paper over the next few weeks although the project is going to be the next couple of years due to an upcoming family wedding and life sucking my limited cash flow. Once I have some ideas together a bit more studying, I'll really appreciate a chat.

    Thanks again.

David T's profile has lots of photos and if you rummage around beyond the Home Page under Junk Information, or Members' Area/Documents, you will find more information from David.  He has problems using a keyboard these days, sotry to do as much homework as you can before conacting him.  He cirumnavigated Ireland in Weaverbird - no mean achievement, single-handed, and an endorsement for the rig.

Thank you for your response Annie.

I won't be contacting anyone directly uninvited or if I'm stuck after lots of searching first.

I've seen Davids pictures of Weaverbird and found his outline sketch of the boat and rig. I'm sure that information will come in handy. At the moment I'm digesting everything I can read and watch. It's great to know his boat was as capable as it is. I'm on the east coast of the UK. My closest stretch of water is the Humber before I even get near the sea.

I'm actually at my boat for the first time in months today. The idea of a junk rig has given me some much needed enthusiasm for the project. Currently having to deal with a seized swing keel right now.

I've got my drawing pad and tracing paper to start sketching though.

It's been great just finding this forum and I've been reading about the voyages of mingming and Roger Taylor. It's actually nice reading about a simpler take on sailing after getting caught up in other groups/forums where many people have a lot of money to burn.

    Hi Arne.

Thank you for your response. I've actually been reading a lot since I joined the association. I've read threads with responses from both of you.

I read a pdf today you wrote about building a timber mast.

My boat work has come to a stand still this year for various reasons but the thought of fitting it out with a junk rig is right down my street.

I'll definitely pick his brains once I've consumed what I can from the past posts.

    Nick, welcome aboard!
The right man to ask here is David Tyler. Until recently, he owned a Hunter Duette (Weaverbird), which he rigged with a JR and cruised around a lot in, mostly along the west coast of England and Scotland.

If you have no clue about JR, maybe this little write-up may help you getting started.

Hi. The subject says it in a nutshell.

I'm new to the association. I've joined because I'm in the slow process of refitting a 23ft project boat. It's a Hunter Sonata 7, swing keel that I got for £150. The boat is the precursor to the Hunter Duette and Hunter Horizon 23/323. They have a racing class but mine being a swing keel and not a fixed keel rules it out anyway so I figured why not do something different.

It's pretty complete with mast, boom sails etc just needs rerigging and a good fit out. However as it's going to be a couple of years before it's on the water now due to upcoming family wedding and currently getting an allotment running I'm looking into the possibility of fitting a junk rig.

I don't have a wide circle of friends and few who'd sail so the fact that a junk makes single handing easier and safer makes it look worth the effort.

I'll be scouring the forums but would be great to get some pointers along the way. I'll refrain from asking questions before checking the forums

I'm based in East Yorkshire, England
