The opti has a 'yard' attached to the mast which supports the top of the Quadrilateral sail, so I'm presuming it will be too short for the equivalent Junk rig.  We're going to make a hole in a piece of wood, so the rig will stand up in the classroom (thus avoiding the need to carry around the dinghy!)

I agree, it could be a lot of fun!  Bamboo is plentiful here and with a polytarp sail would help to reinforce the idea that you can make the rig yourself and dont need to be rich westerners to sail

Rene  and I were originally going to make model to take into schools. it occurred to us that we might as well make something that we can actually use on our dinghy.

We'll be using bamboo for spars as it's available, Do I assume the diameter of the original opti mast is not substantial enough - I was going to lengthen it with a wooden taper, unless advised to contrary.
