One of my clients in Turkey has had a mast made there in 6060 T6 alloy. They were willing to leave the bottom part of the mast parallel, and then taper it from 200mm diameter at a deck level point we set, down to 100mm at the top. They could have gone down to 75mm. Another client in France is having two masts made by them, so it seems they will deliver over long distances.
The process they use is similar to that used by Needlespar's suppliers, in which they roll the tube and squeeze it at the same time. This means the wall thickness gets thicker towards the top of the mast, which is not ideal, but it does give you plenty of material to screw into when fixing masthead fittings.
Let me point out that 6061 T6 is just about the very best material choice for the job, and most light poles and flag poles are NOT made of it as far as I know. It is strong, tough, resilient and about as weldable as any aluminum. There are stronger harder alloys, but they are in many cases unworkable, and prone to cracking and catastrophic failure.
