    Here’s looking aft. 


    Hatches and removable piece in footwell done.

    Outboard well sloping to aperture and glassed. 

    Removed foam and replaced with 3/4” sapele ply glassed over, where hardware is going on. Generous blocking under deck. 2” thickness there. 
    ( decided on mounting the mooring bitts this way as there as not much space elsewhere. Looks a bit weird but should be no problem…)

    Hefty mast step for mizzenmast 


    Putty and some paint soonish.

    Yes. Heavy enough.. should be ok with, say 6-6.5 ton displacement empty boat. 
    I did some corresponding with Eric Sponberg and he informed me that those older freedom masts were overbuild. 
    The section I’ll be using has a wall thickness of 12+ mm at the step.  That is without gel coat. 
    at the mast head it’s 10,5 mm. Inner and outer layers are fiberglass.

    Still, it's amazing how heavy a carbon fibre mast is!

    Routed/drilled out the hole for the main. Mast off center by 13 cm. Better down below. The sail will be on the port side and closer to the centerline. Diameter 240 mm at the partners  

     
    The fore deck is 5,5 cm thick there, plus the 5 degree angled block gives 10,5 cm.  aft and 8,5 cm forward in total thickness. 
    Bury 155 cm. for 14 meters of mast. LAP to be approx 1250 cm. 
    Lopped off the bottom of  the salvaged Freedom 45 mast, resulting in 14 meters weighing 143 kg.

    Time for an update. We’ve been taking it easy the last few months, but a lot of the more complicated work has now been done.
    This winter I’ve built the rudder, daggerboard, stanchion bases and some hatches. Lots of intricate fiberglass work with polyester.  

    Spring is on its way so hopefully temperatures are such that work can continue in the shed. 
    I still need to do the companionway and I’ll have to finish the outboard well. 
    Work on the rig will start soon.

    Everything is looking great, Frederik! Is it correct that the fiberglass is polyester and not epoxy?
