Yay! After giving up on completing new wingsail battens, as being more work, time, motivation and energy to prove them than I could raise, I've completed the rig as a flat sail (having cut off the starboard side of the wingsail, along the luff line, and refinished the luff) with hinged battens. Over the last few days, the sail has gone up and down numerous times, as I optimised the rigging, and all is now ready for a first trial sail. The sail is setting well, with no diagonal creases, and the camber looks good. I've rigged a YHP and LHP and three downhauls (two of them spanned) to take care of the first five reefs.
But today, there's no wind, or at least not enough to give me any answers on how the rig performs and whether all is now sound and sensible. So it's lunch in the pub to celebrate the end of wearing resin-bespattered overalls for the time being, and maybe there will be wind tomorrow.
