I think it might have been a Johnson... Do use the engine well: works a treat. INboard outboards are a great idea. (No reply from my daughter yet - too busy running her ski school.)

    thank you very much, indeed.
i'd like to use the engine compartment and make sure the engine isn't to big for it…
originally it seemed to be built for a johnson…
and yes, i think 5-6 hp should be the least…

    Hi Georg

That was er 32 years ago, Peter, and I really can't remember what we had! I think it was a 5 hp. I know it started on petrol and then ran superbly on paraffin. At the moment we have a 1988 Tohatsu 3.5 two stroke on our tender and that still runs well, serviced regularly as Peter says. I hear that the innards of all such small engines have more or less identical innards.

Might be worth looking at the Kingfisher Yacht Owners' Association site and even asking them - they're very active, and helpful.

I'll ask my daughter what she uses - she's an outboard on their Kingfisher 20 in the French Alps. I'll get back to you.

    Hi Georg,

In terms of brand I would go with a Honda.  I have had 3 Honda outboards and never had a problem.  They are not the cheapest by any means but they have excellent parts availability and seem to be bulletproof, providing of course you service them regularly.  However I am sure there are others who will have had different experiences.

For the Kingfisher 20 I would have thought 5-8hp would be more than adequate, but perhaps Brian will comment having been a Kingfisher owner himself.

    Cheers

    Peter
