    I just heard from Chris Freeman:

    Passepatu has managed to get some time away from work and will again be making a honest attempt to arrive.   At the moment I have 2.4 kilometers of obsolete wiring ripped out of the boat and the switchboard has been striped to replace everything .. Much could and probably will go wrong but it must be done.  Chris Freeman.

    OK, Bryan, now you need to firm up your rules of engagement for the Fant-Ale.  Nice to see people posting here instead of by email.  Thanks.

    Right, absent any suggestions from the floor, I might have to award one bottle of premium homebrewed and lovingly crafted fine American Pale Ale to the boat whose crew display the maximum insouciance, casual air, and all round good attitude whilst sailing. A totally arbitrary and possibly conflicting points system will apply, and anyone wearing dressing gowns for the duration of the race can expect to win.

    You don't think that one dressing gown would be enough? It's likely to be reasonably warm given the time of the year!

    Well, Paul, I convened a meeting of all those who volunteered suggestions as to the rules for the awarding of the FantAle and asked everyone to ponder this. What I replied was that a simple rule of one dressing gown per mast was appropriate. LC is a ketch, is she not? ;-)
