    Welcome into the Jester Challemge world !

    On Mingming, I have a three part halyard and it is easy to hoist and to lower the sail.

    Congratulation and have a nice sail to Baltimore.

    Hi.  The good news is that I launched 6 days ago, mast went up beautifully. As it's aluminium inside aluminium at the bottom I have applied anti seize paste to the overlapping parts and it slipped in very smoothly.  I have done one passage of about 20nm which was part motorsailing and then a long tack across the bay from Studland to Weymouth.  Apart from it being quite tough to raise the sail by hand the handling; tacking and reefing etc are so simple. Mwera seemed to point well into the wind and the sail balance was good. My wind vane had no difficulty in maintaining the course.  I am making my way to Plymouth for the start of the 2025 Jester Challenge which is from  Plymouth to Baltimore (Co Cork, Ireland).  I have plenty to learn about getting the most out of the sail but so far so good.

    It's been an exciting week this week.  On Monday I got my mast up using Arne's hinged tabernacle device and with help from my neighbours holding ropes from the top of the mast to provide more stability . It went well.  Today I've rigged the sail including the main sheet and sheet spans,   but not the batten parrels yet.  So far so good.  

    I have hit one problem which is that the company that provide my 3rd party insurance want a surveyors report on my work before i launch.   The surveyor I've contacted says he can't do a report for a variety of reasons.  How have others dealt with this after doing conversions?

    I imagine that anyone converting a Corribee or any other Newbridge boat to junk rig should become familiar with Richard Brooksby’s blog about his boat Tammy Norie, including detailed descriptions on his hinged mast 

    .  There is so much practical advice in there that some of it is difficukt to to find. His YouTube channel should also be essential for Corribee sailors.

    On a JR Corribee that I looked at last year (as far as I remember an original JR not a conversion), the mast was held in position by a sliding sleeve when up but I do not know, how the hinge worked.

    This is my mast tabernacle with the top section about to be cut off and split in two lengthways to make the mast raising apparatus as per Arne's design.  I'm not far off fixing this into the boat and giving it a go

    I wonder if anyone has made a 'mast raising tabernacle for small boats' according to Arne's design in his files.  I have handed the parts to a welder to put it together for me and look forward to seeing how it works.  I wonder whether some temporary 'stays' would help control the mast as it goes up

    I must have missed this bit - where did you source your lamp post?
    I got it from streetlightingsupplies.com. They supplied it without the access cutout and door they usually have.  I have found the UK supplier of nyalic and am waiting for a quote
