Camber Amount and Placement in a Poly Tarp Sail ?

    All,

I am preparing to build a cambered version of my flat cut poly tarp sail. I have read what I could find in the Technical Forum archives. I will use darts sewn into each panel. I plan on using 8 % camber with a 1/3 panel dart each side and 1/3 straight panel in the center. This will give a 50 % chord location. The sail is a combination of Glen Maxwells flat cut and Rick Casey’s dart cambered design.

Question 1.Will this be ok or should I move the point of the max chord forward. Reading, I see that adding camber to the sail will move the CE forward. I have already had some problems with Lee helm which I was able to adjust out of the flat sail so moving the CE forward would not be helpful. I could lengthen the battens to bring the CE back. I could lengthen the battens about 6 inches with the material I have, from 108 inches to 114 inches.
Question 2. I have four lower panels which will be cambered with a max chord of 27 3/4 inches. I could reduce the panel max chord width to 22 inches and have five narrower panels. Is this helpful or just more work?

I plan to build the cambered version over the winter for spring time use. For now I will be sailing the flat cut version over the next few months.
There are photos of the my junk rig sailing in my photo album in my profile page.

Thank for your ideas and thoughts.
