    Hi Andrew,

    on Ilvy's 35m2 (380sqft) sail I used Swela Outgard 393, a polyester canvas, with 190g/m2.

It is more than sufficient and easily withstands strong winds.

I wouldn't go for spinnaker cloth. As Arne wrote in your "mast position" thread, there will be already a 3D shape sewn in. Also, Nylon doesn't like UV... You would need a sailcover rather sooner than later.

    Cheers

    Paul

What would be an ideal sailcloth for a 400 sq ft Johanna type rig? Could I maybe get away with using two spinnakers I have acquired?
How would I go about finding out the weight of the cloth without cutting it first? I have a micrometer so could measure the thickness.
