A couple of weeks ago I had the honour of taking Eric Andlauer JRA sailing secretary out for a sail on my little junk rigged boat, Bugsy. Eric is holidaying in Australia and contacted me seeking to sail on a junk rigged boat in the southern hemisphere. I was very happy to welcome him aboard. This is a big deal for me as he is the first Junkie I have met since converting to junk rig 7 years ago. To have a sailor of Eric’s experience aboard  was exciting and a lot of information flowed back and forth during our 3 hour sail on Koombana Bay, Bunbury. After a patchy start with the fluky  wind boxing the compass the seabreaze kicked in and we could put Bugsy to work. Eric was very kind about my scruffy boat and its home made sail. As we sailed back through the channel to the launching ramp we were escorted by a pod of dolphins, all under a brilliant west Ozzie sky. Eric presented me with JRA pennant, or is it a burgee, anyway I will fly it with pride and a photo will follow after my next sail.  Happy travels Eric and Marie Aline, I hope we will meet again.

Hi Alex, I wonder if Eric did feel the urge of tweaking your parrels, modifying your rigging, adding and removing ropes...
Cos' I know he can't resist doing that, like he kept doing on Paradox when we sailed to Ireland ! :)

    Bonjour

I went through the JRA member directory and I think all the JRA members present in the Western Australia this day were aboard Bugsy. So I think we could call it a junket !
It was a real pleasure to sail with Alex as it was a real harmonie, the boat suited perfectly  the need of the man. A previous captain of crayfish trailers used to set chains of crayfish pods and recover them in the reef boulders and as he said, with a proud and a little nostalgic smile : "I've broken a few windows !" All was said... But he also raced Flying Fifteens for years.
The home made sail, under the advises of Arne, sets very well and is very efficient on the light Bruce Farr designed hull.
It was a great time and I learnt a lot on Western Australia from the inside.
    Merci Alex.
By the way, I'm also not used to sail with Pelicans around !
    Eric
