What sort of Winch Handle would suit these?

    This is what you are looking for (see attached pic) look at the seconds shops and boat jumbles, you will find the needed sooner or later.

    Ah, Barton or Main Marine winches from the time when we all dressed in woad.

    Sorry, I can't remember what kind of detent there was on the handle, if any, but I suspect none at all.

    Being a sucker for "old stuff" I purchased these two old bronze winches on eBay.

    But they did not have a handle. Clearly they need a rectangular bar with handle to fit in the slots, but it's not clear how the original handle would have been held in place. I have seen pictures of winches that have a spring-loaded plunger in the centre that would hold a handle in place, but there is no such arrangement on these...

    Rather than try to invent something, I wondered if the experts here might be able to provide a hint as to how these were designed...
