Garhauer blocks

Having sailed for two weeks with the Garhauer blocks, I have to agree, Daniel, these are good pieces of kit. I rigged two, and found them to work well, so went up the mast and added a third. Now I can hoist the sail, all but two panels, whereas before I could only manage to get it halfway up before resorting to the winch. They seem to be coping with the loads very well, and Tystie's big sail probably puts as much load on them as any JR sail is likely to. Now I just have to find a fourth, to complete the set for the halyard.

Garhauer has an excellent reputation for being extremely dependable among the sailors I know.  I almost equipped with them myself but got a screaming deal on some Lewmars.  But yes, I've sailed quite a lot of boats equipped with Garhauer gear and would definitely recommend it for value, performance, and longevity.  It doesn't help that they are reasonably affordable in comparison to many of the other vendors, either.

I've heard if you call the company and chat about what you need they often will work with you for quantity deals as they have in the past been very supportive of active offshore sailors, but have no firsthand knowledge of this.

As I get nearer and nearer to my "best before" date, I'm finding it harder and harder to hoist my big sail. MurrayPacific, the big fisherman's store here in Sitka, has Garhauer blocks with 2 1/2" sheaves, 5/16" shackles and Torlon balls ( much stronger than Delrin balls), with a quoted SWL of 2800lbs. I've fitted one single and becket to the yard, and one single at the deck, and I'll see how these last before I go to the trouble of fitting two singles at the masthead.

    Is anyone else using them?
