Looking at a Cubit mini wood stove

    Hi All

    I'm looking at a Cubit wood stove and I'm wondering if anybody here has tried one.


    it's $700 CAD including shipping and taxes at the moment.


    It's 15 inches high including the legs, 13" wide and 11" deep, puts out 8000- 18000 BTU, with a 6 1/2" by 13" cook surface if the rail is removed.

    Should keep my little shop toasty this winter and fit in my boat when I get it built.

    I got one for a small cabin (on land), except I got the Grizzly, which is still quite small but a tiny bit larger than the mini. I went the next size up because folks say that it can hold a fire overnight. We have only just gotten it installed, but it looks really good. Online recommendations said that it will burn off a lot of stuff when you have the first fire. After it arrived, we put a section of stovepipe on it in the driveway, and made a fire. It did indeed burn off a lot of stinky stuff, and we were really glad that we did that step. Also highly entertaining watching the flames through the glass door. I'm looking forward to trying it, when the weather cools down again. And I also have ideas of moving it onto a boat, in the long run.

    Thanks Shemaya, I think I'll order a grizzly tomorrow, the $200 I save by buying it on sale will pay for about half of the stovepipe I need to install it.

    I found a smaller one that weighs half as much costs about 2/3 as much and includes the stainless steel heat shield, I decided not to buy it because it had no window, what's the fun of burning stuff if you can't watch? :)

    Did you get  Brass or Black trim? I'm kind of undecided, they both look really good.

    My darling little Flick stove is about half the size of the Cubit and it has a window.  However, it's made here in NZ and would probably cost too much to send to the Americas.  To get some idea of its dimension in the photo below, the T&G is 70mm wide and the seat 300mm high.

    Hi Bill,

    I got the brass trim – really no idea which is better. And I got the fiddle, in hopes that it really will one day be on a boat. (I have a Bengco on my present boat, but am having endless future ideas.) The brass is already discolored a bit – it might be "neater" if all black.

    Some folks have said that the Grizzly model will go through the night, with the damper and vents set just right.

    The designer/maker says he's "not sure, but 4 to 5 hours with the right wood, turned down low ... coal goes slow but smokes ..."

    Considering that the fire box is 130mm wide, 230 deep and 180 high, that is pretty impressive, I reckon.  But if you wanted it in all night, you'd have to get up and stoke it.
