I have located a Colvin design, steel hull, junk near Indiantown, FL.

The boat was built by Bruce Peterson who has an article in the JRA newsletter, issue 22.

Ginger is looking a bit neglected and in need of some adventure. But to date I have had no luck contacting the owner about purchasing.

I created a little web page about my obsession and would appreciate possible leads.

Ah, sad to see a nice boat rusting away, Mark.  I wish you the best of luck in finding the owner and pointing out that it's about time Ginger enjoyed some TLC and that you are the person to do it!

    Mark

She looks like something of a project, but still worth saving.  Have you tried asking the storage facility to forward a letter (as opposed to an email) to the owner, in which you can outline your proposal? Someone must be paying the bills....

    Best of luck

I can't tell:  do you have the name of the owner, and they simply aren't responding, or is the boatyard not giving the name up?

The boatyard where Ginger is hauled out said they would email the owner. But when I pleaded with them to phone the owner while I was still in the area, they refused. I could see not giving me someone's contact info without their permission, but I know if I had a boat in their yard, I would welcome inquiries for whatever reason.

I asked if their email was ever acknowledged, with no response.

I also emailed and left a phone message with the onsite broker. No response at all. Even left my business card in their door.  Offered to pay the normal broker fee if a deal were made.

Maybe the boat owner is some kind of rock star guarding his privacy. Still it seems like an acknowledgement wouldn't be out of order.

Not sure why the consistent lack of response. I don't dress like a rich man, but I do not exactly look homeless either.

I searched the USCG documentation database and Ginger appears to not be a documented vessel. Florida boat registration information is not made public.

Being from out west, in Wyoming, I am accustomed to a high level of trust between people. FL seems to have many people with very low levels of trust...and highly suspicious.

Short term, I may go in a different direction. If my web page draws in any info, I may still be interested in Ginger. I'd be willing to blast her down to bare hull and do a full Ameron coating and anything else to bring her back.

That is a really odd situation. Usually a broker would be all over it. I suspect that that it may just be a crappy boatyard, and if the owner knew you were getting the runaround, he'd be upset.  Just a suspicion.

And I agree: Florida is one of the least friendly, most distrustful places I've ever been. And this coming from a Yankee, mind you.

For two hundred dollars, I wonder if  private investigator could find the owner.

What about the boats parked around it?  Is it possible to get the names of those owners - they may very well have taken an interest in Ginger when she came in.  She's unique and would inspire conversation between owners.

Maybe this will help. I had seen this boat years ago when I had my last boat in Glades boatyard around the time these pictures were taken.

Thanks. I am astonished my searches did not find that page.

    I found on LinkedIn

A quick update for everyone who has been so kind with support and encouragement.

It sounds like Chris Brand, a previous owner, is still in possession of a Ginger archive of information. He promised, should I buy her, to surrender the collection to me.

I phoned the onsite broker and left a message (and sent an email) offering to hire him as my marine private investigator to contact the owner and, if a sale is made, handle the transaction.
