I am from Cala Pi-Mallorca-Spain. I am interested to buy a 19 ft sailboat junk rigged.
The problem is to shipping from GB to Mallorca.
One option is by road with a trailer (I  could pay expenses and the seller can stay in holidays for a week in Mallorca).
Another  option is a budget to a profesional shipping company from GB to Mallorca.
You can have this question: How do you not to buy this is Mallorca or Spain?. The answer is in Mallorca or Spain the junk rig is not in the market.
Now I owned a 19 ft. Hunter Europa bermudian rigged. If I can't buy a 19 ft JR sailboat I can try to have a new rig (junk) and replace the bermudian rig.
Best regards from Cala Pi-Mallorca-Spain.  Pablo Barceló.

    Hola, Pablo

I've just done a quick Google search for junks of that size in France, Spain and Portugal and nothing came up. So your options probably are, as you say, to buy a junk somewhere else, or to convert the boat you have. Many boats < 20 feet have been successfully converted. By the time you've organised and paid for getting a junk shipped from say the UK, you could be well on the way with a conversion.

There are plenty of people on the site who'd be happy to give advice. You'd need a different mast, and you would have to step it through the deck or mount it in a tabernacle to avoid it going down into the front cabin area. Both would mean constructional work, but not too difficult. Many of our members make their own sails and would be happy to advise, or you could have a sail made professionally. Look in Junk Information > Sails, Masts and Gear for some links to sailmakers/designers. Rigging would be easy.

Why not look at our database of members boats (Directories > Members Boats and use the search faciltities there to find boats less than 20 feet. I'm sure most owners would be happy to give your some tips. And if anyone knows of a boat for sale, please get in touch with Pablo.

Hola Pablo. If you need help with the database search, just ask. And keep on refreshing your post every so often. We have regular visitors of course but many only liog in every few months.

Did you see this post from a guy looking for a junk mast for a Hunter 21? Might be a good idea to contact him to see what his plans are. Just click his name in the post and you can access his email details.

Go to Junk Information > Knowledge Archive and download Factsheet 5 which shows that a Hunter Eurpopa 19 was converted to junk by a John Christian. Unfortunately he is no longer a member. Shows it can be done, though.

Happy new year to you too.

    Hi Pablo
Newsletter 37 has a picture of a junk rigged Europa (page 23), it may give you some idea  of mast placement if you can get a copy

Thank you Simon and Brian. I had seen the Hunter Europa junk rig in photo. I think I will could give information about this. I just have ordered the "bible" Practical Junk Rig (Hasler-McLeod).
