    I still have the rawson 30 as it hasn’t sold yet. It’s still a sloop non pilot house.. I couldn’t bring myself to cut it up. I now own a 38’ on deck 45’ overall double ended cutter.

    I wonder how much the mast would weigh and which sail would be best? The split sail looks interesting and perhaps would be the simplest and best performance?

    The Cal 20 looks like a baby Raven 26 that would probably be great with a Fantail type of sail.
    Relevant to the Cal 20 and other trailerable boats:-
    Has there been any discussion about or solutions come up with to retain the easy mast stepping that makes it possible to "land sail" such boats?
    My Moonbeam has an A frame arrangement that allows me to raise and lower her Bermudan mast alone in around 60 minutes. (With help 1/2 that time.)
    I have the marina at the Vaal Dam launch and recover her after each visit to her with mast in place but such a "cunning plan" would retain her practically if I were to junk her as I want to sometimes take her back to the sea and to other inland lakes and maybe even to Lake Kariba and Lake Malawi.

    Hi John,

    I have not seen a Cal 20 with a Junk rig but my first experience sailing on Lake Michigan was on a co-worker's Cal 20 that he used for club racing. I like the no-nonsense raised deck on the Cal 20. It has a lot to offer for the LOA.

    In my opinion vintage racer/cruiser boats like the Cal 20 are good candidates for a conversion. The reason is all the hardware that is included!

    My boat came with way more deck hardware and blocks than I will need for my junk rig. I expect to get the rig up (eventually) without buying any additional blocks, jam cleats or rope clutches. I will likely have several left over for spares or to sell on ebay.

    Has anyone converted a cal 20? They are plentiful here inexpensive and seaworthy.
