The Westerly 22 is quite sensitive to ballast trim fore and aft. I think Kay has had the same experience as me in my gunter rigged W22, you can lash the tiller, or leave it free even, on some points of sail but as soon as you go below to make a cuppa she goes off on her own course, going forward to the vee-berth for a nap is even worse obviously.

The panels are cambered but I don't remember the exact amount of camber.

I too enjoyed these films... I've had a soft spot for these little bilge keel boats for a long time.  You did a nice job....I was particularly interested in the Roger Taylor style sail panels... curious weather they are cambered or just flat hinged... I couldn't really tell from the shots... maybe someone more observant than I could.   I was also interested to see your steering setup... Is this boat directionally stable enough that you can just lash the rudder and sail that way?   I didn't see any feedback system like STT..

Hi Kay, thanks for the great videos.  What a lovely little boat, and it looks so strong.  I just love  those deck beams, the oars for rowing, and the lines to control the tiller.  You could sail this boat to the Caribbean if you wished.  Maybe slow to windward, as you previously noted, because of her underwater profile, but fantastic downwind in the NE trades.  Those twin keels will act as roll dampeners, the junk rig will pull like a team of horses, and you can relax in the sun.  Just tempting you.  Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures, wherever they may take you.  Bon Voyage!

Thanks for that, Zane.  I love these little boats.  Just look at the wee darling sailing herself along.  And she is so neat and tidy.  The glimpses of the interior were charming.  what a delightful conversion.

Kay, if you get a tenth of the pleasure from this boat as I got from my Westcoaster (the plywood forerunner of this boat), you will never want to leave her!

    Thanks for the link Zane.

Its a nice little boat Kay, all ready to go in the water - you deserve to feel very proud. Just be a little careful with the boat standing entirely on vertical jacks like that, it is probably a good idea to have something a little more solid laterally, just to be extra safe, especially when going under the hull.

You'll be in the water now - happy sailing.

    To who it may concern...

I have started to upload small video clips of my boat, "Djunkay", the Westerly 22, converted to junk rig. The first video you will find as "Djunkay I am no sailor 1" on YouTube. My plan is, to add once in a while a few more, technical and just for the joy of watching the show. So feel free to make comments..., questions about anything just let me know via e-mail (ks-luebeck@web.de), that´s easier I think.

    All the best..

    Kay

    Good one Kay.  I've subscribed.

Here is the link to Kay's channel for those not as adept at searching in Youtube:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoA-b7rrM60nKJZod_9vqhw
