Its a roberts 43 extended to 48, and with added bilge keel in 10mm plate, to sit in sand in northern territory and indonesia. It was 9knot hull, reduced to 6/7 with aded keels.

12 meter masts. It seems underpowered sailwise. Could be rectified?

they use boat for family trips, not commercial.

It seems like a big heavy boat. They said around indo there is not much wind, not much in equator, some at midday, so they tend to motor a bit.

Why would I be interested? Well, the deck would be an ideal studio, out doors, it has insulated panels on biminy, so thats a plus. Its built for tropics, so has air con etc. the pilot house is open.

Its possible that by increasing mast and sail, it would be adequate?

does anyone know the appropriate ratio of sail area to hull for a junk, or a heavy steel jink?

OK, 6 litres/hour is more believable. A good fat bank balance will be needed to run this boat!

They say one liter per nautical mile, about 6 liters per hour.

I agree David, not the boat I would want, much more of a motor boat than a sailboat.

Ah, I thought it looked a bit like a Roberts design. Way too big for one person, would suit two couples with a big double berth at either end. It's been rigged as a motor-sailer with 60% motor/40% sail, I think. I can't believe the Perkins only drinks 1L an hour, but the fuel tank is huge (if you can afford to fill it). Best considered as a basis for running some kind of charter/diving/sightseeing business, is my opinion, but that would mean a lot of commercial-use hoops to jump through.

I don't recognise the design, and can't help on performance aspects without further info - can you give a link to the ad? It looks as though it's been set up to take paying customers out for the day.

It looks like a 'Spray' to me. I reckon it's motoring in the picture. I 'sailed' a gaff rigged one many moons ago. I didn't get the impresion it sailed very well. It had a large motor though :-)

This is a larger hull, but plenty of deck to paint. Do you think the hull is unfit dor sailing. As in totsl motor sailer?

Its a bilge keel, I assume duel keel. It looks like the rig is too small by half.

would it work as a cruiser or is it just a coastal boat?

its a different style of boat, but I am worndering if it is a good compromise, performance for space.

    many thanks.
