The sails look a bit Van Loan and not something I would be happy with but replacing the sails is no biggy. If you can use a sewing machine you can make them your self or I’m sure Paul would make them if you waved the correct number of $$$$ under his nose. :)

That boat has been on the market for quite some time.

Yes Aramoana was ours. I had to rebuild the rudders in Tasmania and found some water getting in in one of the alu beam sections aft. I remember not thinking much about how the builder had put that part together. It used to have lashed (ala wharram) lifting rudders that gave horrible weather helm. I ended up building the original planned rudders as the designer intended with skegs.
When I was installing them I found some wet plywood and did my best to stop the water coming in in a very wet Tasmanian winter. Seems it was still getting in.

She was a nice boat but after having one of the original rudders break on the delivery it was hard for my wife and I to regain confidence in her. Seems we were misguided as she happily sailed up the east coast including single handed across the Bass Strait.

I remember getting excited about that steel junk in SA when it was for sale before we got the cat. But with the current owner not communicating its hard to get excited again. And yes the rig doesnt quite look right...

Does anyone know anything about this yacht? I think its called Raffaela, 38ft steel Boden design I think. The owner is very slow to reply or no reply at all on ad.

    Thanks

Hi Thomas, I don't know anything about the boat but was looking at it earlier. The rig looks a little odd but it is hard to tell from one photo. I was not tempted because the only reason I sold my beloved Arion was because I could no longer cope with steel maintenance.  Interesting seeing your name though, because I almost bought  the catamaran, Aramoana, which I believe you once owned.  I found rot in one of the buoyancy chambers aft, and signs of deterioration in the other three sealed compartments, all of which were leaking slightly through the alloy beams fore and aft.  I loved the boat but did not want a rebuild project.  I ended up buying a fibreglass junkette-rigged Top Hat, which is too small, and needs a little more of as refit than I had hoped (paid way too much for it - never buy a boat from a friend, especially without a close inspection!) but in the end it will be an easy boa tto mooch into my old age aboard.  Should have bought a 30 footer, though did not want to do another junk rig conversion.  Good luck, I will be interested to hear if you manage to inspect this boat.
