    Maxime,

How wonderful of you! If it's truly not too much trouble,  I would love to see translations of the articles at the three links that are in the first post in this thread. My e-mail address is sailsec@junkrigassociation.org – or if it's easy to post them here (I'm not perfectly sure how that would work) that would be great, in case others would like to read them.

    Thank you so much!

    Hi Shemaya,

I've attached PDFs of the three blog posts. I haven't had time to read them (packing to return to Canada tomorrow!), but if the translation is wonky in parts, let me know. I speak passable Chinese and may be able to help. In my quick attempts, I wasn't able to strip the advertisements from the margins, either, sorry!

Regarding the images, unfortunately, I spoke too soon. In parts 2 and 3, some of the images are dead links to another web host, so there's no way to display them. However, I've written the author, asking if he still has them. I'll update this thread when/if I get a reply from him.

    Best,

    Max

Thanks, Maxime! Sadly it does not seem to work for this page, which is unfortunate. The thing that's frustrating about these links is that in the second one the blog writer talks about a woman who came to visit the ship, of all men, and then there are photos that don't show, and have a "!" symbol instead. I am afraid, also based on the somewhat leering text in that particular section, that those pictures could be considered, or are, pornographic – especially because pop-ups of women who seem to be the Chinese version of Playboy models also appear in the margins. This is really, really unfortunate, because the write up of the sailing is nothing like that, based on the sections that I have put through the translator in pieces. Anyway, maybe that's why the full-page Chrome translation would not work.

Thank you so much for the information about that translation method – I'll be getting a lot of use out of that trick, even though it doesn't seem to be working for this particular situation.

    Cheers,

    Shemaya

    Shemaya,

I am in China right now, so all images and text are loading+translating for me. If you give me the links you are trying to translate, I can send you everything, as images or PDF (I'll see which works better)

If you use the Google Chrome browser, you can translate the entire page in-context, by right clicking on the page and clicking "translate".

Some really interesting links have been getting posted over in the Facebook group recently, from sources in China. They are primarily written in Chinese, but thanks to the wonder of the Internet, translation that is good enough to make quite a bit of sense is available, and there are outstanding photos. I wonder if somebody here knows the best way to go about translation, for a whole page at a time? I have been squeaking along with Google translate, but it only does the few paragraphs at a time and involves laborious highlighting. Does somebody here know a better way? There must be one!

Meanwhile, here is an example of a very interesting blog, about a 2008 trip on the large vessel JINHUAXING. It's in three parts:

    part one

    part two

    part three
