I actually have the original Golden Wind sails sent to me by a member of the HMLO, my main problem is that I wonder if having two sails with a lot of sheets and other lines to control slightly defeats the object of going to junk, therefore a single junk sail would be a much better way to go. As I understand it the only other Liberty 22 with a junk rig with the main mast in the original position had bad lee helm and had to add a mizzen to counter act that problem, so that slightly defeats my object as well. I wonder about keeping the original bermudan mizzen in place, a sail that is simple to reef and control, and putting the junk mainsail I have on the mainmast. I might just try this out.

The February 2019 JRA Hall of fame article is going to feature Hans and Golden Wind.  There were two versions of Golden Wind, the first, a standard Liberty with a schooner rig, and the second modified by designer David Thomas for Hans, with a single carbon mast and battens by Carbospars.  The mast pivots at the coachroof and the heel swings up through the anchor well, to make it easy to raise and lower alone.  Both rigs were designed by Sunbird Marine.    There are some technical details of the boat's construction and rig in some early JRA newsletters, which may be accessed online.  There isn't a detailed sailplan, however. Hans is not able to provide information about this as he is unwell, and Sunbird Marine ceased trading after the untimely death of Robin Blain recently.  However, the boat is now owned by Hans's good friends, JRA members, Margit and Andreas Vogt, who may be able to answer some of your questions.

Golden Wind is a special version with only one mast. See frontcover of JRA NL 36. The mast was a super-light carbon job which Hans could easily raise and lower by hand.

If we are talking about the same boat, Hans's Golden Wind, then she had two masts and they were the same as the original cat rig.
