Hi Lesley. Thanks for the informative post. I've added the two links to our Junk Information links pages here, under 'Other Websites'.

Looks interesting, Lesley.  I refuse to have anything to do with Facebook, but can see this would be an alternative.  I spend far too much time on the computer anyway, so will probably give it a miss for now, especially as I'm based in New Zealand and not voyaging any longer.  I'll be interested to hear how you find it.

I am losing patience with Facebook as it's spamming me with ads. I have friends who are only on Facebook to keep in touch with Rene and I, so we're really happy that a cruising couple have come up with an alternative - eBoatCards.com It's only just started so many bells and whistles are yet to be added, but it definitely looks like a viable alternative to the big F. If you're interested, take a look at eBoatcards.com and sign up for an ActiveCaptain account first. it's free and it's ad free. if enough junkies join, we can ask them to set up a Junk Group. What I liked about it was the fact that our land friends will be able to sign up and keep in touch with us. There's also an app for mobiles that enables me to identify boats that are geographically near- should I wish to!
Social networking isn't for everyone, so please don't turn this post into a rant!  it's just for information, and if you do decide to join and take a look, do 'friend' Crib, so we can develop a Junk cruisers group!
